PUTTING TWO AND TWO TOGETHER

Publix Issue Alive Again?

You may or may not be surprised by an ad appearing on an Orlando realty company's Web site.

The ad, which also appears in at least one other developer-oriented publication, is leasing 8,146 sq. ft. of retail space in the Villages of Indian Rocks Beach, between 25th and 26th Avenues…WITH A 28,875 SQ. FT. PUBLIX AS THE ANCHOR!

Click here to view the ad:

Is it a coincidence that, at the same time, proposed changes to our city’s Comprehensive Plan stand to open the door wider for the Publix development to finally become reality?

A quick visit to A.G. Armstrong's new Web site--the developer of the Publix project--reveals that the company has apparently relocated its corporate office from Tampa to Pittsburgh, PA. And, one name appears to be missing from the new site...A.G. Armstrong founder and major force behind the IRB Publix project: Allen Goins.

Pay close attention in the coming months to which IRB City Commissioners support the Publix issue. Will our elected officials opt to favor developer interests and ignore the wishes of their constituents who soundly rejected the project by a referendum vote?

How about you? As an IRB resident, have your personal feelings about the Publix issue changed? Are you FOR or AGAINST it? Do you feel as if the voters are now being backdoored on this issue?

Good Job Nancy!

Notice that there are two distinct site plans shown. One shows the development proposal (aka Publix/grocery store plan)defeated overwhelmingly by IRB voters and the other is the post election plan submitted to and approved by the City Commission (no grocery store, all commercial along Gulf Blvd., residential on 1st Street).

Here we go again, more fast talking double talk by the developer and their representatives.

This time around the development interests have paved the way with development friendly amendments to the Comprehensive Plan now being processed as proposed by A2K and their consultant. These amendments appear to benefit a2k members and benefactors. Wasn't A.G. Armstrong a big contributor to A2K and won't property owned by A2K's other major contributor (Hal Flowers) and former A2K president benefit handsomly if these amendments get approved while residents in the hood will be big losers?

Nice work Nancy! Thank you for unearthing this. I sure hope these commissioners remember we, the people, voted that we didn’t want Publix in our town. Most of the time I believe our commissioners don’t really care how we feel and what we want and the answers to questions are responded with a smug and pompous attitude. Not by all, but by 3. 2 of which hopefully will no longer hurt this town with their uneducated, partisan voting record. I am rather impressed with Dan & Cookie. To date, Cookie has been the only one in town to shut Leo down. Although they are rumors, the passing of time has shown me these rumors must be true. The first being that an old lady in town beat up Leo, forcing him to leave town. He has not denied the event, nor has he written about it. For someone who is quick to distort just about anything for attention, he has left this one alone, fearing perhaps, this lady will come out and confirm the events. The second is, while Leo was recently here in town, unnoticed and in attendance at a city meeting, Cookie must have seen him and after the meeting had an altercation with him. Some say it was on the phone, others say it happened at city hall after the meeting. In any case, since that event happened, Leo has not written about IRB in his blog. I wish I was a fly on the wall when Cookie ripped him a new one. In any case, between an old lady and Cookie, they have taken care of a cancerous boil on IRB’s backside for some time. I thank them both.
I hope Cookie will stand up to this Publix hoopla the same way she did Leo. Go Cookie!

The only one up there who was against the Publix was RB, not sure if he has swayed but the rest of them wanted the IRB Publix. Perhaps they will negotiate a library inside the Publix and rubber stamp the process.

RB has aligned himself with dumb & dumber. Only Cookie and Daniel have shown restraint up there. If RB and Mr. & Mrs. DuMass go down this path, I smell lawsuit.

Jack-off's response to the story "Gulfport is a good place to work. IRB on the other hand is and will be crap as long as crazies like Ockunnzi and Obarski live there. R.B. Johnson has been a major disappointment as IRB Mayor. He needs to stick with planting sea oats."

Sounds like Gutless Leo, Limp Wood, or Jose the crook Copen.

Not so fast on Mr. Sea Oats opposing the publix. He was put in office by a2000, and the library crowd, and is beholden to them. Mr. Sea Oats is helping move the plan amendments along that will pave the more development.

Cookie as a champion of the ordinaary folks. What a joke. As soon a Mr. Sea Oats is gone her real stripes will reappear. Torres, all show, no go, no guts. He held the key vote on the budget and caved.

Agreed about Mr. Sea Oats having favors to pay back, also agree that Cookie wants to someday be Palins VP (yikes what a ticket) and Torres couldve held firm on the budget and not police cuts. With that being said does anyone have the "Nuggets" to stand up to big development and represent what the constituents want? We need some honesty and integrity up there.
